COURTNEY HANS (she/her)

Courtney has been teaching yoga since 2013. She is recognized by Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500 and YACEP. Her first yoga experience was in 2001 in New Orleans after having finished college where she studied Sanskrit and Hinduism among other subjects. She took very little notice of yoga for the next 10 years but then was hooked. “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”

Her classes are engaging with an intention to recenter yourself and realign with the reason why you stepped on your mat. She enjoys teaching students of all levels and ages and is particularly interested in sharing alignment with beginners. Courtney’s teaching style is alignment-focused and she loves teaching people who are looking to explore movement and learn more about themselves through yoga. As a self-proclaimed athlete (running and hiking - Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker Class of 2015), Courtney encourages safety and observation to create a sustainable practice.

She's committed to deepening the yoga practice through space. Allowing space to listen more deeply, recognizing space between breaths, noticing space between poses, and observing moments of stillness and reflection. Courtney commits to meet you wherever you are in response to you committing to step on your mat. You are in the pose. Her own yoga practice provides her with a sense of home and belonging. It is ever changing and available. When painfully ill, her practice was there for her. Through heartbreak, elation, numbness, and growth, her practice was there. “I allow myself to surrender in my practice.”

Courtney has taught various styles of yoga and workshops in Washington, DC; Richmond, VA; Austin, TX; and along the Appalachian Trail.
